When Liberty Counsel Comes to Town
Liberty Counsel is the name of the legal out-of-towners who put up the defense for Ex-Recall and PFOX. I went to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia that has grown to be larger than the Encyclopedia Britannica. Here's what they say:
Looking around the Internet, you see just what kind of organization the CRC has invited to our town. The group is affiliated with the law school at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University, in Lynchburg, Virginia. They were involved as consultants in the lawsuit to keep the Ten Commandments in the courtroom in Alabama, sued to stop same-sex marriages in Massachusetts, filed papers against a Florida abortion clinic, sued a public library that wouldn't allow religious meetings to be held in its conference rooms -- they were even involved in the ballot-counting in Florida during the 2000 Presidential elections.

Apparently it was a good idea bringing in these outsiders. They seem to have totally blindsided the local hicks, who were unprepared to point out to the judge that a series of statements introduced in court were not actually part of the curriculum at all. Who would've guessed that'd work?
Liberty Counsel exists simply, unabashedly, to ramrod the religious right's agenda down the throat of any community in the country where anyone dares defy them.

Liberty Counsel is a legal organization dedicated to defense of religious freedom and traditional mainstream values against legal attacks. It is headed by attorney, Mathew Staver.
Some feel that Liberty Counsel is an organization intent on eroding the separation of church and state and they feel that Liberty Counsel considers religious freedom to mean the freedom of religion to dominate. Others also feel that the Liberty Counsel is only interested in furthering religious freedom as it pertains to Christianity.
The Liberty Counsel and their supporters, however, believe that "separation of church and state" is neither in the law of the United States, nor is it being interpreted correctly with context to the laws that do exist concerning religious freedom. They feel that the courts, by misinterpereting these laws, have been infringing on religious freedoms. Wikipedia

Oh, you TTF people are so amusing! To think that Jerry Falwell and his cohorts have infiltrated into Montgomery County and have taken a foothold.... you crack me up! You just can't imagine that it is mainstream MONTGOMERY COUNTY PARENTS that have organized against you and everything you stand for. Here in a BLUE state of all things! I am shocked! (not.)
Liberty Counsel has fought against abortion! NO! Same sex marriage! It CAN'T BE! CLONING! Say it isn't so!
Get real people. We got the best counsel we could afford. We WON. We are parents and taxpayers. Here in BLUE (Yes, I know Christine, it's hard to believe) MoCo.

Winning in short term is only good for short term. This case is far from over. We all know that.
CRC (ExRecall) is just a vehicle for a larger agenda and we all know that too.

Bianca, the fact is you guys brought in this group to present your case. You have the right to do that, there's no problem with that, you get as good a lawyer as you can afford ... oh, sorry, somebody else paid for this, didn't they?
We see this for what it is, an attempted takeover of local control by an out-of-state big-bucks organization that has as its mission the eradication of the separation between church and state. And really, it seems to me that if they allow this to happen without a fight, here and there, and over there, then the people of the United States deserve what they get: theocracy.
Some of us though are not nearly ready to roll over and play dead. Montgomery County is gonna be one tough puppy to take down.

Your temporary win was in Federal Court, not in blue Montgomery County.
Liberty Counsel= mainstream MC parents-this doesn't equate. Oh, wait- money from outside to get a foothold here- that sounds more likely. You didn't get Montgomery County attornies(well, John Garza- but I guess he needed a lot of expensive help) and you spent a lot of money for a TRO. You didn't win- you are a "temporary" bump in the road- that's all people who fight the truth and tolerance ever are.
Heh. You criticize bringing in outside groups while supporting a curriculum that has a ridiculous amount of Canadian influence and sources. You complain about separation of church and state while championing a curriculum that a federal judge said clearly violates that same separation.
And Jim, "theocracy" claims ring a little hollow at a time when the Supreme Court is removing the Ten Commandments, practicing evangelicals and Catholics are blocked from the federal bench, and there's a strong attempt to get "under God" removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. Maybe you could tone the hysteria back a bit.
