New Citizens Advisory Committee Appointed
Last night the Montgomery County Board of Education named the new members of the Citizens Advisory Committee on Family Life and Human Development. Here's how it breaks down:
So, interesting. I'm on it again. CRC and PFOX people got re-appointed, even though I didn't think the legal settlement required it. Well, the wording of the Board's resolution seems to assume they are still bound by the agreement, so ... I don't know. There are a couple of new people ... Subash is gone, Victor is gone, Maria is gone. Elinor got promoted to "vice chair."
As I understand it, there is a new STD unit in the works. This term ends in June 2007, one year.
And the fun continues.

My thoughts for the new STD unit:
1)The CDC now recommends that all people between the ages of 13 and 65 be tested for HIV in all medical care settings (including routine doctor's office visits). They recommend that high-risk groups (including MSM, African-Americans and IV-drug users) be tested more often).
2)The most important thing to know about condoms and anal intercourse (despite what CRC/PFOX-GAG assert) is that partners should use a water-based lubricant (such as you can buy at the drugstore), not an oil-based lubricant; condoms are much more likely to break in any use if partners use oil-based lubricants such as mineral oil, lotion or cooking oil; many students don't know this.
3)Partners should always use safer sex practices.
The provision of the 2005 Settlement Agreement requiring that CRC and PFOX have members on the Citizens Advisory Committee "will expire at the end of the school year in which the Revisions are first implemented, excluding the test or pilot of the revisions." Para. 17 of the Settlement Agreement. So CRC and PFOX are entitled to slots on the Advisory Committee until this time next year.

Can I get HIV from anal sex?
Yes. In fact, unprotected (without a condom) anal sex (intercourse) is considered to be very risky behavior. It is possible for either sex partner to become infected with HIV during anal sex. HIV can be found in the blood, semen, pre-seminal fluid, or vaginal fluid of a person infected with the virus. In general, the person receiving the semen is at greater risk of getting HIV because the lining of the rectum is thin and may allow the virus to enter the body during anal sex. However, a person who inserts his penis into an infected partner also is at risk because HIV can enter through the urethra (the opening at the tip of the penis) or through small cuts, abrasions, or open sores on the penis.
Not having (abstaining from) sex is the most effective way to avoid HIV. If people choose to have anal sex, they should use a latex condom. Most of the time, condoms work well. However, condoms are more likely to break during anal sex than during vaginal sex. Thus, even with a condom, anal sex can be risky. A person should use generous amounts of water-based lubricant in addition to the condom to reduce the chances of the condom breaking.

That's for sure. The settlement agreement is what stacked it with some far right wingers who most certainly do not represent the majority liberal community here in Montgomery County.
I agree with you Aunt Bea. The majority of the citizens of this community do not want PFOX or CRC using religion to support the hate they push upon others. Hating others is not Christ and He would be ashamed by their tactics. I live by this idea: Judge and Ye shall be judged in return. God does not hold man's sin again him, so why do other humans? Interesting. I look forward to laughing at PFOX and CRC every morning! :-)

Oh, look, goof ball anon is back. Hey, goofy- how about your remark that statewide the electorate looks different and I poined out we elected a Dem. Governor and Senator. No answer from you -just like when you didn't answer after championing the SG - when I posted an SG statement supporting the APA and AMA, and when I responded with condom facts after the letter from Briggs with typical CRC lies-you were silent again.
This is Montgomery County, MARYLAND- maybe you are are from Montgomery County, VA- and the whole different state thing evades you?
School Apologizes for Censoring Gay Kiss

NEWARK, New Jersey (June 26) -- A New Jersey school district said it regretted ordering a picture of a male student kissing his boyfriend blacked out from all copies of a high school yearbook and said it apologized to the student.
..."Superintendent Marion A. Bolden personally apologizes to Mr. Jackson and regrets any embarrassment and unwanted attention the matter has brought to him."
District spokeswoman Valerie Merritt said Bolden would meet with Jackson on Tuesday.
But Steven Goldstein, chairman of the gay rights group Garden State Equality, said Jackson had not heard from the district by 10 p.m. Monday.
"They don't have a meeting set up, it's not true," Goldstein said. "The school district hasn't contacted him. Whether they reach out to him on Tuesday remains to be seen."
...Previously, Bolden had described the picture, which showed Jackson kissing boyfriend David Escobales, as "illicit."
"If it was either heterosexual or gay, it should have been blacked out. It's how they posed for the picture," Bolden told The Star-Ledger of Newark for Saturday's editions.
In the photo, Jackson is seen turning his head back over his right shoulder and kissing Escobales, 19, of Allentown, Pennsylvania. It was blacked out after Russell Garris, the district's assistant superintendent who oversees the city's high schools, told Bolden he was concerned that the photo could upset parents.
The photo was among several that appeared on a special personal tribute page in the yearbook.
Jackson, who paid $150 for the page, noted that the yearbook is filled with pictures of heterosexual couples kissing.
I saw that story, actually, on CNN.com. I am glad that student stood up for his rights. That is what this wonderful, FREE, country is all about.
