Supporting Hallmark and Their New Line of Cards
I'll admit it, I think PZ Myers is kind of fun. He's an atheist professor who has just been having a big time lately making fun of religion. I personally don't think that's worth doing, but his exploits definitely have a sting to them -- he's the one who stole the consecrated Eucharist wafers and broke them up and threw them away, thereby offending many thousands of people while claiming that all he did was throw away some cookies. He does that sort of stuff.
Today he's got a new idea. It turns out that Hallmark has started producing wedding cards for same-sex couples, and the Family Blah Blah groups are, as expected, offended. So for instance HERE you've got an American Family Association "Action Alert," telling people to send emails and letters to Hallmark. Actually, this one is updated, check this out:
Imagine that, Hallmark doesn't want email from a bunch of nuts... hard to figure out why, isn't it?

My guess though is that if Hallmark is "blocking emails from those who support one-man, one-woman marriage" they're probably also blocking emails from godless deviants and sodomites, too.

I don't like the cute stuff, I don't like the idea of mass-produced sentiment in general. But ... what's more typical of our American culture than a Hallmark card? And what would be more annoying to a hypocrite like Wildmon than a mailbox full of cards about love?

I'm sure he'll appreciate a coming-out card or gay wedding announcement. Do it even if you aren't gay or aren't getting married — it's the thought that counts, you know.

I hate to bring this up on the big week but it seems the Democratic Party has a sexism problem.
Joe Biden ran for President and got about 700 votes, including family members.
Hillary Clinton ran for President and got 17 million votes.
Yet, B Obama apparently feels the American people would prefer Biden as his understudy.
Go figure.
How many women are going to vote the sexist Joebama ticket?

In particular, they cited comments by former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, who was Tuesday night's keynote speaker, suggesting that his speech would not be a red-meat attack on McCain but an appeal for bipartisanship.
"There may be parts of the speech that aren't going to get a lot of applause, but I've got to say what I believe will get our country back on the right path," Warner — who was neutral in the party primaries — told reporters on Monday.
Democratic strategist Paul Begala took issue with Warner's comments, suggesting that more partisanship, not less, was needed at the party convention.

On Monday, James Carville, who managed Bill Clinton's successful 1992 campaign, told CNN: "If this party has a message, it's done a hell of a job hiding it tonight, I promise you that."
The day Hillary Clinton was to address the convention, McCain's latest TV ad played off her primary campaign spot featuring sleeping children and a 3 a.m. phone call portending a crisis. In the new ad Clinton is shown saying: "I know Sen. McCain has a lifetime of experience that he will bring to the White House. And, Sen. Obama has a speech he gave in 2002."
A narrator adds: "Hillary's right. John McCain for president.""

The GOP spent two years setting up their war machine aimed - where? - at the wrong target, natch. And now that Obama is going to be the Democratic nominee, the GOP calls Hilary their best friend. The GOP will say and do ANYTHING, they are so desperate for votes.

DENVER (Aug. 26) - Hillary Rodham Clinton summoned millions of voters who supported her in the primaries to send Barack Obama to the White House Tuesday night, declaring in a Democratic National Convention speech that the man who defeated her "is my candidate and he must be our president."
...Calling herself a "proud supporter of Barack Obama, she dismissed Republican John McCain with a few choice words.
"No way. No how. No McCain," she said as the hall erupted in cheers.
"We don't need four more years ... of the last eight years," she added.
Joe Biden is no sexist, he's an honorable family man. Shortly after he was elected to the senate in 1972, Joe Biden's wife and daughter were killed in a car crash. To take care of his two sons he commuted an hour and a half from Washington to Wilmington, Delaware by train and has continued to do so ever since. Earlier this week, he stopped by the Wilmington train station to say goodbye to his Amtrak family for the past 36 years before heading to the convention in Denver.
John McShame's family values include divorcing his first wife, the mother of 3 of his kids. McCain, who is about to become the GOP nominee, has made several statements about how he divorced Carol and married Hensley that conflict with the public record.
In his 2002 memoir, "Worth the Fighting For," McCain wrote that he had separated from Carol before he began dating Hensley.
"I spent as much time with Cindy in Washington and Arizona as our jobs would allow," McCain wrote. "I was separated from Carol, but our divorce would not become final until February of 1980."
An examination of court documents tells a different story. McCain did not sue his wife for divorce until Feb. 19, 1980, and he wrote in his court petition that he and his wife had "cohabited" until Jan. 7 of that year -- or for the first nine months of his relationship with Hensley.
Although McCain suggested in his autobiography that months passed between his divorce and remarriage, the divorce was granted April 2, 1980, and he wed Hensley in a private ceremony five weeks later. McCain obtained an Arizona marriage license on March 6, 1980, while still legally married to his first wife.
Until McCain filed for divorce, the Reagans and their inner circle assumed he was happily married, and they were stunned to learn otherwise, according to several close aides.
"Everybody was upset with him," recalled Nancy Reynolds, a top aide to the former president who introduced him to McCain.
Caunt Bea, no one is moved by the cynicism of Hillary's speech last night. She has never had a non-Machiavellian moment in her life.
Don't know about McCain's private life but public policies are what matter to pro-family voters. I could care less about the rest. Obama, at this point, supports anti-family policies. Ronald Reagan, the greatest President of the 20th century, also was a divorced man.
How can Obama overcome and turn this election into one where every American can consider both major party candidates? Michael Gerson has some sage advice this morning. Good reading for TTF too. Gerson refers to the "blogged bitterness" epitomized by TTF in the second paragraph.:
"In his speech, Obama should deepen his arguments about the essential public role of religion and deliver his party from its recent secularism. Religious values should not merely be tolerated out of politeness; they are, in American history, inseparable from the search for justice. They assert a divine source of human dignity -- a firm basis for human equality -- that no law or tyrant or prejudice can erase.
And to give a memorable speech, Obama must find some way to reassert his initial theme of national unity, recently drowned out by the daily gunfire of presidential politics. Every good convention speech includes clever partisan barbs (as did Kennedy's New Frontier speech). But if Obama does not distinguish himself for his post-partisan unity, there is little positive justification for his candidacy. And this emphasis is needed in a country sickened by its own blogged bitterness. Democratic nations are designed for disagreement. They are weakened by contempt. Loyalty to America, at some level, demands loyalty to one another. Love of country requires a regard and affection for our fellow countrymen."
Obama will not take Gerson's free "advice," which by the way is worth exactly what Obama paid for it -- nothing. Gerson was Dumbya's speech writer for 6 years and 4 years into that job, had a heart attack at age 40. It's hard on a person telling all those lies all those years.
I find Gerson's other piece in today's Washington Post much more telling about his intent than the one you cited. Here's what Hilary said last night
"I'm here tonight as...a proud supporter of Barack Obama
....Barack Obama is my candidate, and he must be our president
...I support Barack Obama for president
...We need to elect Barack Obama
...Let's elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden for that future worthy of our great country."
After listening to that speech, Gerson decided to call his other opinion piece today, "Hilary Didn't Endorse Obama." He is as wrong about that title as he was with his infamous lie about the "smoking gun/mushroom cloud" he created in his effort to help the Bush neocons sell the American public on nonexistent nuclear dangers they pretended were posed by Saddam Hussein. Makes me wonder if Gerson also wrote Bush's lie about firing anyone in his adminstration who had anything to do with blowing Valerie Plame's cover.
If Gerson truly had "regard and affection for our fellow countrymen" he wouldn't lie to them.
I'm proud to say when Obama is sworn in next January, he won't need liars like Michael Gerson to make up catchy soundbite lies to fool the American people.

Hillary has the exact same policy positions as Obama and Biden. She received about the same number of votes as Obama while a print-out of Biden's votes could fit on av average sized pamphlet. Biden may sew up Delaware but Hillary has nationwide appeal.
Obama chose Biden instead because he's a sexist.
Hillary doesn't want Obama to win. If he loses, she has a clear claim to 2012.

BTW, commercials with video of both Hillary and Biden arguing passionately that Obama doesn't have enough experience to be President are already running in key states.
It's over. Obama erred badly by not choosing a conservative Southerner. Sam Nunn would have been perfect.

No, Sybil (all of you!), Obama is about as far from being a sexist as you are from being tolerant. Obama is dedicated to his wife and two daughters. Michelle is his first and only wife, his number one confident and campaigner. He loves her for her moxie and dedication to helping others, not her family's money.
Unlike your preferred candidate, Obama's family values do not include leaving his first wife and their three children behind, while carrying on with another woman. In fact, Obama has won the endorsement of many women's rights groups because of his stance on women's issues.

Actually, the Biden nomination is good news for the GOP. Hillary had a national following and some political skills. Biden is nothing more than another Dukakis/Gore/Kerry/Edwards. He'll be easy to paint as an extreme liberal to a moderately conservative country.
