Weird
The phone rang. It was a recording. A young man's voice said:
Halfway curious, I pressed 1. He said something like this:
That was the whole thing.
All I can think is that by pressing "1" I somehow gave away my identity or something, authorized somebody to bill their phone calls to my number, I don't know, it might have been a scam of some sort. Is it possible that somebody is calling people at random to tell them to "keep capitalism alive?" Who are they for? Who are they against? Is capitalism dying?
In a competitive free market you'd get a better robo-call than that.
Press one if you want to hear a message about capitalism.

This country was founded on the principles of small government and letting people follow their dream. Keep capitalism alive.

Andrea- not anon
I vote for some compatriots of the Showernuts. Stupidity and Know -nothingness seems to be on the rise.
I think it was hysterical that at one of the town halls on Health care where the droolers were screaming about socialism - the audience was asked if any of them were on Medicare and about half raised their hands.
that's hysterical, andreary
"Is it possible that somebody is calling people at random to tell them to "keep capitalism alive?" Who are they for? Who are they against? Is capitalism dying?"
Haven't you heard?
Obama wants to replace it with socialism.
Already he has nationalized many banks and a huge auto manufacturer.
He is paying people to buy cars.
Soon he'll just get rid of money altogether and just have the cars built and pass them out on a government approved allocation.
We also have a health plan that will pay for abortions and doctors to encourage euthanasia.
That's why Obama's face is all over L.A. above the word "socialism".
Christianity is Socialism...unless you, as a Christian, reject the teachings of Christ.
Why was that hysterical, Andrea? People who are receiving government-run healthcare are showing up in droves to protest a monopoly of government-run healthcare. Who knows better than the people who receive the service already?
They know that the ONLY reason Medicare works at all is because it is bolstered significantly by the private sector. It doesn't take much imagination to figure out that all healthcare will become mediocre and sub-standard under a one-payor system!
"Christianity is Socialism...unless you, as a Christian, reject the teachings of Christ."
This is called liberation theology and is a false teaching.
Socialism involves compulsion by government.
Christianity holds to a seperation of church and state.
"Christianity holds to a seperation (sic.) of church and state."
A truly laughable statement! The Christers are working mightily in the vineyards of lies to convert this country to a theocracy.
actually, this is a bigoted statement
Christianity depends on the existence of the unsaved for its vitality.
They wouldn't want a government establishing a religion.
It doesn't take much imagination to figure out that all healthcare will become mediocre and sub-standard under a one-payor system!
No, Anon, it doesn't take much research to find out how people feel about a US government funded one-payer system: just ask our veterans and military personnel who are covered by precisely such a system.
The VA proudly reports:
• VA will be able to continue to provide timely, accessible, and high-quality health care that sets the national standard of excellence for the health care industry. For the 8th consecutive year, customer satisfaction with VA’s health care system in 2007 was higher than the private sector. Patients at VA medical centers recorded a satisfaction level of 83 out of possible 100 points, or 6 points higher than the private-sector health care industry.
