The Nation's Eyes are on Montgomery County— Support Comprehensive 21st Century Sex Education

Citizens signing this petition are supporting a 21st century sex education curriculum for MCPS students. While continuing to stress the importance of abstinence for teens, we, the undersigned support revisions to the curriciulum that will provide our students with current knowledge about how to protect themselves, based on the latest recommendations from the medical and scientific communities.  Also, based on mainstream science, we support a new curriculum that recognizes that sexual orientation is not a choice, and that homosexuality is not a disease.  Teachers initiated changes to the curriculum.

MCPS is following the lead of several local school systems that already teach a similar curriculum.  Those curricula promote abstinence, teach students how to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases, and include terms and definitions dispelling stereotypes in order to eliminate acts of bullying, hate, and violence.  The nation's eyes are on Montgomery county and decisions you make.
